IREI and Pohnpei State DOE have partnered up to expand the Pohnpei Language Texbook inventory. This book, Pel, examines traditional Pohnpeian taboos in contexts of thepast and the present. Books are published entirely in Pohnpeian and exclusively for use within the Pohnpei school system. View Book.

 

MWEIN ARAMAS - Part 2

IREI and Pohnpei State DOE have partnered up to create a series of Pohnpeian language textbooks. We started with addressing the curriculum needs of the lowest grades and plan to add new books for progressively higher grades over the next several years. One of the first products of this program is “Mwein Aramas”-- an adaptation of Pohnpeian legends about the island’s origin. Books are published entirely in Pohnpeian and exclusively for use within the Pohnpei school system. “Mwein Aramas” - Part 2 documents the early voyagers to Pohnpei that are said to have transformed it from a barren, rocky place to a lush, bountiful isle. We started with addressing the curriculum needs of the lowest grades and plan to add new books for progressively higher grades over the next several years. One of the first products of this program is “Mwein Aramas”-- an adaptation of Pohnpeian legends about the island’s origin. Books are published entirely in Pohnpeian and exclusively for use within the Pohnpei school system. “Mwein Aramas” - Part 1 documents the voyages of Sapwkini and the first people who built up the island, which began as a sacred stone altar upon a small reef.
