VOLUNTEER FOR ISLANDS!
Island Research & Educational Initiative (iREi) is a young NGO, run entirely by volunteer effort. We work on behalf of the islands, their ecosystems, and their peoples. Aware that these unique places -- some of the world's smallest and most endangered -- harbor disproportionally high levels of our planets bio- and cultural diversity, we believe that they must be protected.
We do not wish to "freeze" the island lifestyles and cultures as they are now, nor do we support or encourage the needless dependency of island communities. What we look for is inspiration and solutions that will empower island peoples to resist cultural and economic pressures from the outside, to safeguard their lifestyle and environment, and to practice ways to sustainably use their limited resources. If you believe that our work is worthwhile and love the islands as much as we do, please join us.
